Hey friends, it’s Lizzie! 💛 My 20s hair era: bleach every few weeks, heat styling constantly, and a shelf full of products I used exactly twice. My 30s hair era: recovery, simplicity, and actually letting my hair be hair. If your 20s did a number on your hair too, this one is for you — the entire low-maintenance routine that is bringing mine back, in three steps and about five minutes.

The Philosophy: Fewer Things, Done Consistently

Here is the biggest thing I have learned about hair in my 30s: the routine you actually stick to beats the elaborate one you abandon by Thursday. I stopped chasing miracle products and started asking one question — will I really do this every week? Everything below survived that test.

Step 1: Wash Day, Simplified (Solid Shampoo + Conditioner)

I swapped my bottles for Kitsch’s volumizing solid shampoo and conditioner bars, and honestly? The smell alone was worth the switch — and the bars have outlasted basically every bottled product I have ever bought. Swipe through wet hair, lather, done. They also travel like a dream, which matters a lot in our current hotel-hopping season of life.

I wrote a full, honest review here: my Kitsch shampoo bar review.

Step 2: Scalp Care on Repeat (Rosemary Oil)

The step my 20s self would never have believed: scalp oil. A few drops of Kitsch’s rosemary scalp oil massaged in before wash day. Since adding it, my new growth has genuinely surprised me — which, for hair that was bleached every few weeks for years, felt like winning the lottery. That is my experience, not a promise — but it earned its permanent spot.

Step 3: The Free Stuff

The least glamorous step is the one doing the heaviest lifting: I simply ask less of my hair now. Less bleach (okay — no bleach), less heat than my 20s, and more patience than my 20s. None of that costs a dollar. Products support the comeback; the comeback itself is mostly about what you stop doing.

Where My Hair Is Now (Honest Check-In)

Still a work in progress — I will not pretend otherwise. But the new growth is coming in, my hair feels healthier to me than it has in years, and the entire routine takes minutes a week instead of becoming a personality. In your 30s, that is the win: good enough to see progress, simple enough to actually keep doing.

Hair Routine FAQ

Does your hair routine really need to change in your 30s?

I can only speak for mine: it did not need more — it needed less. Less bleach, less heat, fewer products, used more consistently. The simpler my routine got, the better my hair did.

Is Kitsch worth it?

For me, yes — I keep repurchasing, which is the only vote that counts. The smell, the ease, and how long the bars last are what keep them in my shower.

Where should I start?

If your hair is damaged like mine was, I would start where I did: simplify wash day first, then add the scalp oil and give it time. Nothing here works overnight — the magic word is consistency.
