Florida Date Nights: Reconnecting When Your Partner is Home

Building a high-performance life in your 30s often means navigating intense schedules, career pivots, and sometimes, a lot of distance. When you are deep in the trenches of real estate contracts and building an online business, and your fiancé is constantly traveling for work, the time you actually get to spend together in the same zip code becomes incredibly sacred. You learn very quickly that “quality time” isn’t a buzzword; it is the absolute foundation of a strong partnership.

Our ultimate goal is to build a business together that allows Brandon to step away from the relentless travel schedule. But until we hit that milestone, our weekends here in Brevard County require intentionality. We don’t want to spend our limited time together sitting on the couch scrolling on our phones. We want to reconnect, eat incredible food, and enjoy the coastal lifestyle we are working so hard to optimize.

The “Low-Friction” Date Night

When you have both had exhausting weeks—him in airports and me dealing with difficult clients—the last thing either of us wants is a date night that feels like more work. We lean heavily into “low-friction” evenings. This means dropping the need for formal reservations and blazers, and instead opting for authentic, high-quality local spots where we can actually hear each other speak.

One of our absolute favorite ways to decompress is hunting down the best local cuisine. We will frequently trade the traditional steakhouse for a massive spread at a local Korean BBQ spot, cooking together at the table and completely unplugging. If we are craving something different, hitting up Ocha Thai Noodle or grabbing authentic dishes at El Mezcalito Mexican Grill provides that perfect, relaxed atmosphere where the food is incredible and the vibe is completely unpretentious.

The Coastal Reset: Sunsets and Bonfires

You cannot live in the Melbourne area and not take advantage of the coastline. A staple in our relationship is taking the simple things outside. Sometimes the best date night isn’t at a restaurant at all. It is securing a bonfire permit in Satellite Beach, packing up some snacks, and bringing the dogs out to the sand as the sun goes down.

Sitting by the fire allows us to have those “CEO conversations.” We talk about the future of HowToLive30, the development of our e-commerce operations, and our shared vision for a life where we control our time. It’s grounding. The ocean naturally lowers your cortisol, making it the perfect environment to transition from “business partners” back to just being a couple.

Balancing the Hustle with Health

Even on date nights, we don’t completely abandon our wellness goals. You can enjoy a massive Korean BBQ dinner or Mexican cuisine without totally derailing your fitness progress if you structure your day correctly. It is all about balance and ensuring your body is fueled for whatever the next day holds.

The Morning-After Protocol

We work hard and we enjoy our weekends, but Sunday morning is always a reset so we are ready to hit the power rack or the pickleball courts.

  • Hydration First: A heavy, salty dinner requires immediate hydration the next morning.
  • Rule 1 Proteins: Before we head out for a weekend workout, a quick Rule 1 shake ensures we hit our protein macros, keeping our energy high and our metabolism steady even after an indulgent date night.

Protecting Your Peace

If your partner travels, or if you are both just swamped with your respective careers, my biggest piece of advice is to ruthlessly protect your time together. Put the phones on ‘Do Not Disturb’. Don’t talk about the difficult client you dealt with on Tuesday unless you need to vent for five minutes and move on. Focus on the present.

We are building a life that feels authentic to us, and that means prioritizing our relationship just as much as our business goals. Whether we are laughing over a grill full of Korean BBQ or watching the waves roll in at Paradise Beach, those are the moments that make the hustle entirely worth it.
